My first quilt

Here are pictures of my first quilt. It is tied, so I suppose it is technically a comforter. It comes from a pattern in a magazine for a crib quilt, but I doubled the blocks to make it bed size for my two nieces as they were in a double bed at the time. The letters were made by enlarging the patterns found in the mag that were about an inch or two high. Blocks are 12 inches. Blocks are alternated, print letter on solid fabric and vice versa. I put the blocks so it could be read from top or bottom of quilt. The letters were appliqued with Stitch Witchery (at that time a fairly new product) and then satin stiched to the background block. The quilt was tied twice, once from the front with colored yarn that only went through the top and batting; and once from the back with white yarn tied through back and batting. There must have been a reason, probably so the ties would not show on either side, but not sure at this point. It was done in 1972 for Christmas. Surprising, the batting has not bunched up or fallen apart and none of the fabrics are torn or shredded. I think it says it was well taken care of, rather than the expertise of the maker. Fun to make and fun to see it after all these years.
